ADVOCACY

MARCA encourages all individuals to be self-determined and advocate for themselves. One group that the organization offers, known as MARCA Council, is a self-advocacy group that concentrates on the needs of the individuals in the work place.   This can be anything from needing adaptive equipment for a new job to having a new vending machine for break. Meetings are held monthly and all individuals are welcome to attend the meetings and help make MARCA a better place to work.

MARCA has also been very supportive with the individuals who attend meetings with their state legislatures to change laws in Ohio and is active in nominating individuals to attend a 3 day state training that takes place throughout Ohio called Project STIR.

Project STIR is taught to individuals interested in learning how to speak up for themselves. Speaking up for yourself could mean speaking up at an individual’s ISP meeting or helping others speak up for themselves.

MARCA plans to expand on self-advocacy by welcoming new groups who can help teach individuals to speak up. The also collaborate with the Marion Co Board of DD and their self-advocacy group Self Advocates of Marion County.   MARCA Industries functions under a person-centered approach, encouraging active involvement with individuals being served.
